16 Best things to do in Doha
1. Katara Cultural Village
If you want a crash course in Qatari culture, this is the place. Katara Cultural Village is packed with art galleries, an open-air amphitheatre, and even a few beautiful mosques. Keep an eye out for exhibitions, live performances, and cultural events.
Visit katara.net to check out upcoming events, workshops and current exhibition opening hours.
2. National Museum of Qatar
Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the exterior of this breathtaking museum is a masterpiece in itself, resembling a giant desert rose. Inside, you’ll find interactive exhibits on Qatar’s history and culture.
The National Museum of Qatar is a fantastic family day out activity and a great way to escape the midday heat for a few hours.
Entry is QAR 50 (£10.70) for adults, QAR 25 (£5.30) for students, and free for kids under 16.
Note: the museum is open every day except for Tuesdays.
3. Mina District
This waterfront area in Doha’s port is one of the most Instagrammable places in Doha, with pastel-coloured buildings, incredible street art, cute cafés, and dreamy marina views.
If you arrive at Mina District for sunrise you’ll practically have the whole place to yourself so you won’t have to battle any crowds to take photos however please note that a lot of the shops and restaurants won’t open til much later in the day.
If you’re less bothered, then come here for sunset for a much more lively atmosphere.
4. Desert Safari
When you’re surrounded by skyscrapers and water in Doha, it’s easy to forget you are actually in the desert. Which means you can quickly escape the city and book this epic half-day desert safari trip to where the sea meets sand dunes.
This adventure includes dune bashing in a 4WD, sandboarding, and a visit to the inland sea to catch your breath and take lots of photos. Prices start from £42.85 per person with the option to add on hotel transfers.
5. Have Lunch at Dokya
If your idea of a perfect meal involves a table covered in mezze and succulent meats, then Dokya is where you need to be.
This Middle Eastern restaurant serves up unreal grilled dishes, conveniently located right next to Souq Waqif. Make sure to order their Chicken Mambos and the decadent Chocolate Pistachio Cheesecake which had me drooling for days after my meal here.
If you’re visiting Doha on a weekday, take advantage of Dokya’s value-packed Business lunch offer which is available from 11 am to 4 pm and is priced at QAR 85 (£18.15) per person, which includes four courses and soft drinks.
6. Visit a Mosque
Curious about Qatari mosques? Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Bin Mohamed Al Thani Mosque, located at The Pearl Island’s entrance, is one of the most stunning in Doha.
Non-Muslim tourists can visit mosques, though ladies please note you will need to be fully covered, so make sure to wear both an Abaya and Hijab so you’re hair is covered too.
If you can, avoid visiting on Fridays, especially during the hours of Jum’uah/Friday prayer (1 – 2 pm) as the mosque will be at its busiest during this service.
7. Souk Waqif
You can’t visit Doha without getting lost in Souk Waqif. This traditional market is packed with stalls selling spices, textiles, abayas, and souvenirs.
Make sure to visit the nearby “camel pen” (Google Maps location) which is the resting place for the camels of the Doha Imperial Guard, if you get here around 4 pm you can watch the guards ride the camels before returning them to their pen.
8. Spend the day at a Beach Club
Doha is full of amazing beach clubs, but my personal pick is the SUSHISAMBA Beach Club – the best spot to soak up views of the Persian Gulf while sipping on cocktails.
Every Sunday at SUSHISAMBA Beach Club is Ladies Day, which means free entry for all women & happy hour lasts all day from 12 pm – 9 pm.
For every other day, sunbeds are a 200 QAR (£42.70) per person entry fee, and the best part is this fee is redeemable on food and beverage. I’ve eaten at several SUSHISAMBA restaurants around the world, and their Japanese & Peruvian fusion dishes are consistently incredible.
For something a bit more livelier, on Thursday evenings the club hosts Kimono Nights With live DJ sets kicking off at 6 pm, entry is QAR 120 (£25.60) and for ladies, this includes 2 complimentary drinks and an aperitivo.
9. Qanat Quartier
A little slice of Venice in the Middle East, Qanat Quartier is a charming neighbourhood filled with rainbow-hued buildings and scenic canals. Spend an afternoon here strolling around, grab a coffee, or even take a boat ride for the full experience.
The Qanat Quartier Water Shuttle runs from Gate B with service starting at 9 am. The shuttle costs QAR 40 (£8.50) for a gate-to-gate trip.
10. Sunset Boat Cruise
For the perfect evening in Doha, take a 2 hour boat cruise around the bay while watching the sunset over the water.
While you sail on this traditional Arabic Dhow, enjoy complimentary cold drinks and views of some of Doha’s most iconic landmarks like The Pearl, Corniche and Katara Cultural Village.
11. Brunch at Boho Social Doha
If you love a good brunch with a side of aesthetic perfection, then Boho Social is your spot. Perched on Katara Beach, this stunning bohemian-inspired restaurant serves up one of the best brunch experiences in Doha. Think chic Moroccan-style interiors, stunning Gulf views, and a menu packed with globally inspired dishes.
Their weekend brunch is a must-try, with all the usual breakfast favourites like smashed avo, shakshuka and açai bowls. If you end up coming here in the afternoon or evening, I’ve heard great things about their regular menu too. Reservations are essential here as this is a popular foodie spot.
12. Place Vendôme
A shopping mall that’s the retail equivalent of Versailles in its grandeur and beauty. Even if you’re not in the mood to spend money, swing by Place Vendôme in the evening to catch the iconic dancing fountain show – it’s similar to the Bellagio show in Vegas but with a distinct Qatari finesse, accompanied by a 3D laser performance.
The show takes place on the hour, every hour from 7 pm to 11 pm.
13. Treat yourself to a Spa Day
Doha has some of the most beautiful spas in the world. It would be a shame not to treat yourself to a luxurious spa session while visiting Doha – and Mondrian Doha is home to one of the best.
Their indoor rooftop pool has got to be one of the most beautiful pools I’ve ever experienced, with a colourful stained glass ceiling. The world-class ESPA spa at Mondrian offers the ultimate self-care experience.
In particular, the female spa is one of the most stunningly designed relaxation rooms I’ve ever experienced. Ladies can enjoy crystal rain showers, a Finnish Sauna, steam rooms and relaxation rooms fit for a princess with warming daybeds.
14. Doha Fish Market
I wouldn’t normally recommend visiting a fish market while on holiday, however, this is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Doha, located within the Mina District.
You don’t need to be a seafood expert to appreciate the Doha Fish Market – with its beautiful mosaics and stained glass, it’s like walking inside a kaleidoscope.
If you love eating seafood as much as me, be sure to have a meal at Chabrat Al Mina, located next door.
15. Museum of Islamic Art
Home to one of the best collections of Islamic art in the world, the Museum of Islamic Art is a must-see if you appreciate history and craftsmanship.
There are several floors with displays of various metalwork, ceramics, jewellery, woodwork, textiles, coins and glass.
Make sure to visit the museum’s outdoor courtyard for a postcard-worthy view across Doha Bay.
Entry is QAR 50 (£10.70) for adults, QAR 25 (£5.30) for students, and free for kids under 16. Tickets are available on arrival however you book in advance at qm.org.qa/tickets/select-tickets. Note: the museum is closed on Wednesdays.
16. Grab a cocktail at a Rooftop Bar
A common misconception about Doha and a mistake many tourists make is thinking it’s illegal to drink alcohol in Qatar – that’s certainly not the case at all!
While drinking in public is definitely illegal, there are many spots across the city where you can enjoy a cheeky cocktail in licensed hotels, restaurants & bars.
For killer views of the Doha skyline, I recommend heading to Provok Rooftop Bar at Katara Towers.
This place is all about creative cocktails inspired by ancient trade routes, live DJs, and sunset city views. If you fancy staying for dinner, here you can enjoy eclectic Asian cuisine with plates of sushi + sashimi, Korean barbecue and teppanyaki grill.
How to Get to Doha
Qatar Airways pretty much rules the skies here, with direct flights from major cities worldwide landing at Hamad International Airport (DOH). If you’re flying long-haul with Qatar Airways, you might even be eligible for their stopover program, which includes discounted luxury hotel stays – worth checking out!
Most nationalities (travellers from 101 different countries) can get a visa on arrival, this is now referred to as “visa-free arrival”. You can easily check your visa requirements at visitqatar.com/intl-en/plan-your-trip/visas and if you need to apply for a visa in advance, you can do this at www.hayya.qa.
Doha’s main airport is a destination in itself and is one of the most beautiful airports in the world. It’s ridiculously fancy – like giant teddy bear sculptures worth over $6 million level of fancy – with some of the best luxury shopping and incredible restaurants. So make sure to spend an hour or two here before leaving the terminal.
How to Get Around Doha
Let’s get straight to the point, you’re probably going to be taking Ubers everywhere during your visit to Doha. They’re affordable and reliable, with short rides costing around QAR 10–15 (£2–£3) and longer trips across the city around QAR 25–50 (£5–£10).
Public transport in Doha is available as an alternative. The Doha Metro is clean, air-conditioned, and super affordable, at just QAR 2 (£0.40) per ride or QAR 6 (£1.30) for a daily pass/unlimited rides. You can buy tickets easily at the station vending machines.
Taxis are also available but tend to overcharge tourists, so stick with Uber or Karwa taxis (government-run and metered).
Best Time to Visit Doha
Unless you fancy melting into the pavement, avoid Doha in summer (June–September), when temperatures hit 50°C (122°F). Instead, visit between November and April, when the weather is warm but bearable, which is perfect for being able to explore the city and be outside for desert adventures.
November: 21–30°C (70–86°F)
December: 16–25°C (61–77°F)
January: 14–22°C (57–72°F)
February: 16–24°C (61–75°F)
March: 19–28°C (66–82°F)
April: 22–35°C (72–95°F)
How Many Days in Doha?
So, how long do you actually need in Doha? If you’re on a stopover, you can tick off the main sights in 24–48 hours. I recommend Souq Waqif, the National Museum of Qatar, a dhow sunset cruise, and a quick desert safari adventure before heading back to the airport.
But if you want to properly experience the city without feeling like you’re in a constant sprint, 3 to 4 days is the sweet spot. That gives you time to lounge at a beach club, explore Katara Cultural Village and the Mina District, treat yourself to a spa day, and eat your way through Doha’s incredible foodie scene.

Where to stay in Doha?
Choosing where to stay in Doha depends on what kind of trip you’re after – beachside luxury, buzzing nightlife, or full-blown cultural immersion. Here’s a breakdown of the best areas to stay in Doha:
West Bay
West Bay is Doha’s modern financial district, packed with glitzy skyscrapers, five-star hotels, and upscale restaurants. Here you’ll also be close to The Pearl, Katara Cultural Village, and Doha Corniche.
If you’re after a hotel with an epic skyline view, I recommend Le Méridien City Center
is where you can experience 5-star luxury with rooms from £100/night.
The Pearl
This artificial island is basically Doha’s version of Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah. Think marinas, waterfront cafés, luxury shopping, and private beaches.
If you love a laid-back, resort-style kind of holiday, then The Pearl is your spot. Here you’ll find one of Doha’s most luxurious resorts, Four Seasons The Pearl-Qatar, offering spacious residential-style suites, a private beach for guests, and world-class dining for the ultimate indulgent stay.
Msheireb Downtown
Msheireb is Doha’s most walkable neighbourhood, home to the Msheireb Museums, trendy cafés, and Souq Waqif just around the corner. If you want to stay somewhere central and stylish while soaking up Qatari history and culture, this is the perfect base.
For a luxury stay in the heart of Msheireb, check into Alwadi Hotel MGallery, where rooms start from £85 per night. This 5-star hotel offers stunning city views, a rooftop bar, a relaxing spa, and close access to the tram system, making it super easy to explore Doha.
Lusail
Lusail is Doha’s newest mega-development, home to Place Vendôme (aka mini Paris), Lusail Marina, and futuristic towers. It’s a little further from the city centre, but if you want quiet, luxury, and cutting-edge architecture, this area is for you. Also great if you’re in town for a concert or game at Lusail Stadium.
Lusail is also home to the ultra-luxurious Raffles Doha and Fairmont Doha, two stunning hotels offering world-class dining, opulent suites, and breathtaking skyline views.
