Lisbon Card
Getting a 24 hour Lisbon Card is a no brainer! At only £19 per person you can easily make your money back in just one day.
The pass includes free admission to 39 attractions and unlimited access to public transport.
With this card I recommend visiting the following popular attractions: Jerónimos Monastery, the Belem Tower and the National Tile Museum.
Best time to visit Lisbon
While Lisbon gets a remarkable 300 days of sunshine per year, the best times to visit Lisbon are during the shoulder seasons.
Avoid visiting in peak summer (July & August) to avoid the crowds, school holiday vacationers, and the scorching heat.
May & June are the best months to visit with average temperatures of 22°C/72°F up to 26°C/78°F and long evenings, staying light until 9 pm in late June and early July, optimal for stretching out your travel days.
September (average 26°C/78°F) & October (average 23°C/73°F) are also great months to visit, with fewer crowds and enjoyable mild warm weather.
How to get around Lisbon
Lisbon is famous for its iconic yellow trams, which are the best way to get across the city as you can enjoy scenic views along the route.
The E28 tram in particular takes you through the most historic parts of the city and is a must-do activity when visiting Lisbon.
A single journey tram ticket cost 3€ or a 24-hour pass offers much better value at 6.80€ for unlimited rides on all trams, buses and metro rides. Note: the 24-hour passes can only be purchased at metro stations.
Uber & Bolt are both available in Lisbon, with trips costing on average 5€ – 10€ and often cheaper than hailing taxis.
While you can definitely walk in a lot areas in Lisbon, it is full of very steep hills and many stairs, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. In my eyes, more steps walked = more pastel de natas earned.

Fantastic guide to Lisbon. I’m looking up flights on the back of it! Well done. I planned a friend’s 40th to Budapest last year, largely based on your recommendations and we had a brilliant time.
Thank you Lisa! So glad to hear you had a brilliant time in Budapest 🙂 Let me know if there are any other destinations you are visiting this year and I’ll try my best to get a guide together. xx
