Phuket Travel Guide: Where To Visit/Eat/Sleep/Drink
Welcome to my Phuket Travel Guide. Phuket might be famous for its dreamy beaches and it’s infamous Bangla Road, but there’s SO much more to this island than lounging by the sea (though that’s obviously a vibe). Here are some of my favourite things to do in Phuket that’ll have you falling head over flip-flops for this tropical paradise.

Best things to do in Phuket
Explore Phuket Old Town
Forget the beautiful beaches for a sec and make sure to visit the colourful streets of Phuket Old Town. This charming area is packed with pastel Sino-Portuguese buildings, quirky coffee shops, and the kind of local markets that make you want to buy everything (including stuff you absolutely don’t need, like another straw bag).
Wander down Thalang Road for all the photo ops, and if you’re lucky, catch the Sunday Walking Street Market for some top-tier street food. Personally, I think the Old Town is way cooler than Patong, especially if you’re after a slower, more cultural pace.
Watch a Muay Thai Fight
If you’re craving a different activity that will surprise you, head to Patong Boxing Stadium for a live Muay Thai fight. This isn’t your average touristy attraction — this is raw, sweaty, heart-pounding action, and it’s a huge part of Thai culture.
I’ll be honest, I usually do not care to watch grown men fight, however witnessing the magic of Muay Thai is entirely different. It’s an art form – not a testosterone hissy fit – and I was hooked! Especially watching the Wai khru ram muay: the ritual & prayer the fighters perform before a match.
You can catch Muay Thai matches every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at Patong Boxing Stadium from 9:00 PM to 11:30 PM. You can purchase tickets here for £35 / $43 USD which include a free T-shirt.
Dine at Three Monkeys Restaurant
If you fancy a meal with a side of jungle magic, Three Monkeys Restaurant is the spot. Tucked away in the treetops, this dreamy venue serves up a mix of Thai and international dishes that are as good as the views.
Don’t skip the cocktails — they’re as impressive as the décor. I came here for lunch however I’d actually recommend coming here for dinner as I’ve heard it’s even more beautiful in the evening with lots of beautiful fairy lights.

P.S. Right next door to here is Hanuman World – an epic location to go zip lining.
Take a Boat Trip to Phi Phi Islands & Maya Bay
No trip to Phuket is complete without hopping on a boat tour and heading to the Phi Phi Islands. Think crystal-clear waters, dramatic limestone cliffs, and beaches so stunning they look like they were created by AI.
Maya Bay is the star of the show (yes, the one from the movie The Beach), but be prepared for crowds — it’s popular for a reason. Pro tip: book an early morning or sunset tour to skip the tourist overload.
Also, pack some snacks, sunscreen and bring cash with you as it costs 400 Thai baht (£9.40 / $11.50 USD) to cover the National Park Fee to enter Maya Bay.
For convenience book this Maya Bay & Phi Phi Islands Tour which covers the park fee and also includes lunch & soft drinks + an optional pick up/drop off from your accommodation in Phuket.
Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time in Phuket to do this James Bond Island Longtail Boat Tour so if you’re staying longer enough make sure to add this to your itinerary. At least for me I have another reason to return to Thailand one day, not that I needed another excuse.
Visit a Beach Bar
There are various beach bars dotted across Phuket, though for ultimate island vibes, make your way to Flamingo Beach Bar. It’s the perfect spot for cocktails, chilled beats, and an unbeatable sunset view.
Order a mojito (or three), kick back in a bean bag, and let the relaxed energy of Phuket wash over you. It’s low-key but still buzzing, and you’ll leave feeling like you’ve found a slice of paradise.

Where to stay in Phuket?
Here are my recommendations for the best places to stay in Phuket:
Patong Beach
Patong Beach is the heart of Phuket’s nightlife and entertainment scene, making it the perfect spot if you’re looking for a lively atmosphere during your Thailand trip.
Here, you’ll find everything from luxury resorts to affordable hostels, all within walking distance of markets, beach clubs, fighting stadiums, and the famous (or infamous) Bangla Road.
I stayed a few nights at Marina Gallery Resort which is in a quieter area close by and only a 7-minute taxi ride to Patong Beach.
Kata Beach
Kata Beach is ideal for families or couples looking for a more relaxed vibe. This picturesque area is known for its soft sand, calm waters, and excellent surfing spots during the monsoon season.
You’ll also find plenty of restaurants, boutique hotels, and charming cafés nearby. Chanalai Romantica Resort is perfect for a romantic stay and only a 5-minute walk to the beach.
Phuket Old Town
If you’re a fan of culture, history, and Instagrammable streets, Phuket Old Town is where you’ll want to stay. This area is filled with colourful Sino-Portuguese architecture, quirky shops, and fantastic local restaurants like One Chun and Blue Elephant.
It’s a great spot for those who want more than just a beach holiday. Check out Bedline Hotel for affordable rooms from $40 USD/night or Hotel Verdigris for a more luxurious stay in the centre of the old town.
Kamala Beach
Kamala Beach is a quieter, more tranquil option compared to Patong, with luxury resorts and private villas overlooking the Andaman Sea.
It’s a fantastic spot for travellers seeking peace and relaxation, with easy access to upscale beach clubs like Café Del Mar.
I cannot recommend a stay Keemala Resort enough for the ultimate luxurious experience, they provide complimentary 10-minute transfers to Kamala beach from their resort.
I recommend splitting your stay in Phuket between two areas. Stay a few nights close to a beach, like Kamala or Kata Beach and stay two nights in Phuket Old Town.
In the old town, you’ll be close to local night markets as well as a 10-minute drive from the pick up point for the Maya Bay & Phi Phi Islands Tour which is an absolute must-do bucket list activity while you’re in Phuket.

CLOSE TO BEACH
This uniquely designed 5-star hotel will make you think you’re sleeping in the depths of the jungle when you stay in one their treehouse-style villas. Thanks to its secluded layout within lush greenery, you’ll forget you’re actually only minutes from the beach!
Located near Kamala Beach, Keemala provided guests with an unforgettable experience with its remarkable luxury services, out of this world style villas, an award-winning spa and delicious dining options.
Connected by winding pathways and rope bridges, the villas are at Keemala are simply remarkable! All of the 38 villas have their private pool and unique design features.
I had the pleasure of staying in both one of the the Bird’s Nest Villas (recommended for couples) and Tree Pool Houses (recommended for groups). The villas have of the coolest designed bathrooms I’ve ever seen with intricate tile work, rustic features and a deep baths made out of stone.
Keemala is PERFECT for a honeymoon, you can book a private romantic rooftop dinner for sunset, surrounded by glowing candles and views of the sea. You can even get married at Keemala too! The resort offers wedding and photography packages for guests looking to celebrate their love.
Keemala is the ideal place to unwind, far away from the crowds you’ll find elsewhere in Phuket. The sprawling hillside provides a tropical oasis to relax in however there are complimentary transfers each day to the nearby Kamala beach which is a short 10 minute drive from the resort.
All Rooms & Villas include complimentary breakfast, daily fresh tropical fruit, daily minibar refill, personalised villa host service, a welcome gourmet drink upon arrival, free wifi and complimentary recreation and holistic activities during your stay.
