It’s practically impossible to take a bad photo in Venice. You could point and shoot blindfolded and yet still end up with countless images worthy of Instagram’s explore feed. The winding streets lined with ochre and umber houses, the turquoise coloured canals and the brilliantly golden sunsets of Venice provide the perfect colour palette for your snaps.
Assuming you have already ridden a gondola and eaten your weight in Cicchetti, you’re now ready to capture some unforgettable photographs in Venice – and this guide is for you. Because we all admittedly love getting a cheeky shot for the gram. And why not? I truly believe sharing is caring, which is why I’m showing you the best Venice Instagram spots.
15 of the best Venice Instagram Spots
1 — Piscina S. Moise
Click here for exact Google Maps location
Not only a perfect photo spot but the ideal location to experience the quintessential beauty of Venice. From here I watched gondolas glide by and heard an old Italian man serenade onlookers, his enchanting voice echoing off the walls of this canal.
FYI: This jetty is frequently used by DHL gondolas who unload their deliveries here, meaning its often too busy to take photos. Come here in the afternoon around 4 pm onwards when the delivery boats are done for the day, which means you can learn from my mistakes and stay in bed just a tad longer 😉
2 — Sunset photo from Rialto Bridge
One of the most mesmerising sunsets you’ll ever experience. Head to the top of Rialto Bridge for golden hour and start snapping away. Make sure to shoot on RAW so you can have better control when editing your photos. My Autumn preset works perfectly on all sunset photos and helps enhance the warm hues.
3 — Scala Contarini del Bovolo
del Bovolo, Corte Contarina, 4303
Once you climb the staircase of Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo you’ll be rewarded with this view St Mark’s Campanile and the perfect photo spot.
4 — Bridge of Sighs
You can’t miss the iconic shot of the Bridge of Sighs – but where is the best place to take photos of it? My vote is from Ponte della Paglia – the view from this bridge looks back at the stunning canals, rather than out to the water.
In the photo below you will notice a little photo spot that none of the tourists nearby seemed bothered about. To access this spot you just need to take a few small steps from Ponte della Paglia, it’s hard to miss.
5 — Burano
This tiny Venetian island is an Instagrammer’s wet dream, however, the brightly coloured fishermen houses of Burano were painted shades of pink, green and yellow long before any social media apps even existed. Click here to read my guide on how to get to this island.
6 — Gelatoteca SuSo
Sotoportego de la Bissa, 5453
You can have your gelato and gram it too. Conveniently this bridge, overlooking a canal, is located around the corner from Gelatoteca SuSo which means you can whip out your iPhone and get a quick shot long before your gelato starts to melt.
7 — Gondola Ride
Ok so obviously you’re not going to go on a gondola JUST for a photo, but it certainly makes for a pretty picture. Just to remember to put your screens away swiftly after getting your shot. Since you pay by the minute, it’s an unforgettable experience you’ll want to be 100% present for. Click here to read my guide on everything you need to know about gondola rides in Venice including pricing, timing and locations.
8 — St. Mark’s Square
Ok, so I’m not 100% sure if these lights are up all year round (I took this in early February). However, the pathways surrounding St. Mark’s Square catch some beautiful light in the early morning, creating dramatic shadows in between the pillars.
9 — Rialto Bridge
If you’re going to take one photo of a bridge in Venice, let it be this one. There are numerous spots you can take a photo of Rialto Bridge, my favourites and here, here, here and here.
10 — Literally any street
If you’re after a more minimal street style shot in Venice you needn’t venture far. In fact, put your GPS away and spend some time getting lost, because there’s a perfect photo spot waiting for you at every turn.
11 — Dal Moro’s
Carbs & content – what more could you want in life really? Head to Dal Moro’s, a popular pasta takeaway joint, pick up your favourite pasta, then take a few steps to this spot and take a photo with the gondolas passing by. Could this photo BE any more Italian?
12 — Literally any bridge
There are approximately 391 bridges in Venice. That’s 391 opportunities for you to get a bomb-ass photo. You’re spoilt for choice really.
13 — Libreria Acqua Alta
Because where else will you find a staircase made entirely out of books? You can’t miss a visit to Libreria Acqua Alta, bookworm or not.
14 — T Fondaco Rooftop Terrace
One of the top views in Venice and best of all, it’s free! For more details on how to make a free booking for this photo spot, read my Venic guide here.
15 — Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute
Head here for another iconic shot of Venice. I love the chaos of the gondolas against the still serene water leading up to a view of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute.
